Anti-Genocide Parliamentary Forum officially launched

The President of the Senate officially launched the “Parliamentary Forum on the fight against Genocide denial and revisionism” on this 08th May, 2015.

President MAKUZA Bernard said that denial and revisionism is one of the steps of a Genocide planning and implementation; which is currently rampant and Rwanda is facing its consequences. “This forum will be a platform for us Legislators to play our role n the fight against Genocide: its ideology and denial worldwide.” The President of the Senate noted.

Hon. MUTIMURA Zeno, Chairperson of the Committee that established the Forum said that the focus will be put on research, monitoring and mobilization about Genocide denial and revisionism and strategies to address those issues.     “We also intend to initiate this kind of forum in other Parliaments of the world”.

Eighty two (82) members of Parliament had registered to become members of this forum and Sixty three members of the forum who were present elected the bureau of the Forum as follows: Hon. KARENZI Theoneste as President of the Forum, Hon. UWIMANA Consolee as the Vice President and Hon. NYIRARUKUNDO Ignatienne as the Secretary General. The newly elected Chairman of the Forum, Hon. KARENZI pledged to put their efforts in implementing the objectives of this forum correctly.
