Huye, 24 November 2018: Minister of Infrastructure, Ambassador Claver visited the University of Rwanda Huye Campus to assess the progress of the renovation of the hostels for students.

Minister of Infrastructure expressed satisfaction on the progress of the rehabilitation of students’ hostel which stands at 63% with three blocks fully completed and other six blocks in progress with Reserve Force the contractor.

From the current situation, the Campus has so far received 8,062 students among which 6,537 are fully registered and only 2,833 are hosted within the campus. The rest are renting outside the campus pending the completion of ongoing rehabilitation works.

This visit was held after the monthly community woks (Umuganda) in which Minister of Infrastructure, joined residents of Kigoma sector, Shanga cell where the work focused on terracing activities to fight erosion at Serugenzi hill. The community activity involved also two members of parliament originating from Huye, District leaders, security organs and representatives from Ministry’s affiliated agencies including Rwanda Transport Development Agency (RTDA), Rwanda Housing Authority (RHA), Rwanda Energy Group (REG) and Water and Sanitation Corporation (WASAC).

After the umuganda, residents were sensitized to embrace national programs like medical insurance (mutuelle de santé), the prevention of drug use, and other information on family education including hygiene and sanitation as well as mother and child health. They were also encouraged to condemn sexual violence, discourage school dropout and to regularly maintain the existing infrastructures solely at their disposal.

The residents were also given opportunity to raise their concerns and they were given orientation. Consequently, the Mayor was requested to hold a meeting with the residents on Tuesday 27 November 2018 to address the issues raised by the population.

Minister of Infrastructure held also a meeting with District Officials to review the implementation progress of the previous resolutions adopted to revamp business the Huye city. Discussion focused on the status of renovation old buildings in the city, the operationalization of industrial park and the efforts to revive business.

 The District was encouraged to keep engaging the private sector and other concerned authorities on the development of industrial park, building construction and other related investments.
