MININFRA mourns the massacred staff during 1994 Genocide

Kigali, 25 May 2017: Ministry of Infrastructure (MININFRA) and its affiliated agencies Management and staff, families and friends of the victims that were killed in 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, gathered to remember staff of former Ministry of Transport and Communication (MINITRANSCO) and Ministry of Public Works and Energy (MINITRAPE) on the 23rd Commemoration.

The Commemoration was started by a walk- to-remember to Rusiga Genocide Memorial Site located in Rusiga sector, Rulindo District where the Ministry Officials and staff paid tribute to 6394 victims buried there.

According to the Minister of Infrastructure Honorable James MUSONI, the Government of Rwanda reiterates its commitment to fight genocide ideology and reflects on the Country’s journey of unity and reconciliation in the last 23 years. As Rwandans, we will continue to “Remember the Genocide against the Tutsi – Fight Genocide Ideology – Build on Our Progress”

The Ministry of Infrastructure Kwibuka23 activities embarked on rehabilitating as well as electrifying 10 houses and donating food supplies to the Genocide survivors in Amahoro Village, Shorongi Sector in Rulindo District.

At the Ministry Headquarters, a Mourning night brought together staff, the relatives of the killed victims and the former workers of the Ministry and all stakeholders where the Minister of Infrastructure pledged full support in advocacy, educating the school dropouts, ensuring health initiatives and other programs that would transform better standards of living of the needy relatives of MINITRANSCO and MININTRAPE staff killed in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

Pastor Antoine Rutayisire asked the audience to keep in mind Rwandan values in their regular activities and achievements. In so doing, they will be able to maintain self-reliance and other Government initiative like Ndi Umunyarwanda which has humanized again Rwandan society and brought them back to the root.

In his testimony, Dominique Rurangirwa who worked at the Ministry during 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi thanked God and RPA troops who stopped the Genocide against the Tutsi and said that “Those who left us to die taught us to value ourselves and depend primarily on our own means for solutions” I thank the Government of Rwanda for putting Kwibuka platform that helps us remember our families, the continued support to Genocide survivors all over the Country and showing us love that we are not alone.”

Families and friends of the former workers killed in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi also laid wreaths on the Ministry’s 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi Memorial, on which is engraved the names of their loved ones.
