Kabuga-Masaka road officially inaugurated

On the 22nd September, 2015, theKabuga-Masaka paved road project of 6.3Km was jointly inaugurated by Honorable Minister of State in charge of transport, Dr. Alexis NZAHABWANIMANA and Chinese Ambassador to Rwanda, H.E. Shen Yongxiang .Other government officials present were the City of Kigali Mayor, Fidele NDAYISABA and Kicukiro District Mayor, Paul Jules NDAMAGE.

The 6.3 km paved road is located in Kicukiro District and was funded by the People’s Republic of China at a tune of Rwf14bn in Fourteen (14) months.

This road is the best of its kind in Rwanda. Apart from high end lanes for vehicles, it has both pedestrian and cyclists lanes. Everybody have access to the road irrespective of the means of transport.

The road construction grant from Chinese Government reflected excellent diplomatic ties between the two countries.

China Road and Bridge Corporation built the road after it was subcontracted by Zhongmei Engineering Group Ltd that won the tender issued by the Chinese government.

China Road and Bridge Corporation are also constructing other roads in the country, including the 81 kilometres (km) Rusizi-Nyamasheke and a 66 kilometres (km) Nyamasheke-Karongi tarmac roads, which are estimated to cost $110m (over Rwf75bn).

Hon Minister congratulated the company for excellent work done, this will benefit Masaka and Kabuga residents to transport their products to the markets in a sustainable manner and urged Masaka residents to make good use of the road to boost their businesses, ensure regular maintenance and have ownership to this important infrastructure.

Speaking at the inauguration, Chinese Ambassador to Rwanda, H.E.Shen Yongxiang reaffirmed his country’s commitment to cooperate with Rwanda. He also pledged continued support to the country, given its accountable governance.

The City of Kigali is working on a number of road construction projects, meant to improve the road network in the City and the completed road has a life span of twenty (20) years
