Kigali, 27th April, 2017- The Minister of Infrastructure Honorable James Musoni met contractors and consultants in construction sector to have common understanding on management and protection of infrastructure utilities during project execution.

 

The Minister pointed out the government's keenness on supporting and developing the private sector and construction industry respectively and informed the meeting that the issue of infrastructure utilities protection during project execution is of a great concern on the side of the government.

 

The meeting discussed a number of topics, especially the issues that were reported as the cause of infrastructure utility damages relating to construction sector. The meeting proposed mechanisms to strategize for better infrastructure utilities protection in the City of Kigali, in developing sub cities and the entire country, emphasizing much on ownership, thorough communication and awareness over utilities locations and ensuring partnership with the government in infrastructure utilities protection in line with sustainable infrastructure development.

 

The meeting called upon the contractors and consultants not to forget sanctions in place including jail and fine in case of utilities damages and urged them to be more cautious on this issue and abide by the instructions in place. This will be fully discussed at the upcoming meeting that will bring together all contractors and consultants, scheduled to take place in May 2017.
