Hon. Germaine Kamayirese visited Kigali suburbs over water shortage

Kigali, 20th August, 2015- The Minister of State in charge of Energy and Water in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Honorable Germaine Kamayirese together with Hon. Fidèle Ndayisaba, Mayor of the City of Kigali visited different areas in the City of Kigali over issues related to prevailing water shortage, waste collection and transport to Nduba landfill.

The purpose of the visit was to witness the challenges that have to be addressed as a matter of urgency in the City of Kigali to alleviate the water scarcity in the areas most affected by the crisis.

There are already identified sites in the City of Kigali where big water tanks have been installed to provide water to the residents some of which were installed in Busanza and Gikondo Sectors, Kicukiro District.

Other sites that were visited include COPED Offices, Contractor in Solid Waste Collection, Management and Transport, at Gitega Sector and a decentralized sewerage system that is poorly operational in the Centenary Building.

Hon. Minister of State urged the technicians to ensure security and order at the sites as well as regular maintenance of the infrastructure, called for more trucks to carry water to the tanks and fast roll out of water tanks.

For non functional decentralized sewerage systems, the owners should repair or replace them within a given time or face closing of the premises.
