The Ministry of Infrastructure briefs press on the new plans.

Kigali, 26th November, 2014-The Ministry of Infrastructure held a press conference to highlight on success stories and commendable achievements recorded and future plans to further the implementation of projects in pipeline towards infrastructure development.   

The press conference meant to create awareness on how the Ministry of Infrastructure and its affiliated agencies will improve service delivery and ensure successful completion of infrastructure projects, related programs as guided by EDPRS II, Government 7 year program and vision 2020 targets. 

It was meant to create awareness to the public and all development partners regarding the clear roadmap to achieve priority infrastructure needs, harmonize coordination mechanisms and address pending challenges to foster economic transformation and infrastructure development in the Country.

The press conference was chaired by Honorable Minister of Infrastructure, James Musoni in presence of Minister of State in charge of Transport, Hon. Dr Alexis Nzahabwanimana, and Minister of State in charge of Energy and Water, Hon. Germaine Kamayirese, together with the heads of affiliated agencies. The press conference tackled all sectors: energy, water and sanitation, transport and urban planning and development.

The Minister of Infrastructure, Hon. James Musoni, addressed the opening session of the press conference at exactly 11:00am.

Powering industries, connecting households and creating more opportunities is a priority in our mandate; we are aiming to ensure 70% access to electricity in the country by 2018 including access to schools and Hospitals.” Minister Quoted”

The Government will ensure increase in electricity generation from the current installed capacity of 155MW to 563MW by 2017 and develop and implement strategies to achieve 48% of on grid connectivity basing on defined priorities to 2018

The Government also has a target of connecting Rwanda to local, regional and world markets through an efficient transport system through quality road, water, and railway and air transport infrastructure. This will go hand in hand with improving housing development that is planned and quality water and sanitation services.
