Residential solar water heaters to reduce power costs up to 80%

In order to counter the increasing demand for electricity and use of charcoal across the country, the government of Rwanda is sensitizing the public to use solar water heaters. They reduce power costs by up to 80%.

Subsidies on the solar water heaters have been provided by the government to encourage people purchase them. A hundred people who recently purchased the solar water heaters have benefitted from the government subsidizes.


With this drive, the Government Rwanda continues to edge its target of renewable energy generation through Energy Water and Sanitation Authority (EWSA) to the change the lives of the poor in remote areas.

More awareness campaign is being carried out Country wide sensitizing people living in rural areas on how to get access to renewable energies through participation of private sector especially local small and medium enterprises.

Solar water heaters are being provided to equip families through systems that provide the minimum electricity to meet the basic of households.

The promotion of this new technology in Rwanda will enhance improved quality of life of the population, students and make savings in expenditures for phone charging lower than ever.

Renewable energy is under a theme:”Energy Access for All”.
