The Contruction works were launched at Gisimenti, Remera, where a 3.7 km road will be contructed

On the 2nd March 2014, the City of Kigali launched the construction project of 100 km stone paved roads to reduce traffic congestion in the city and improve the accessibility and urbanization of residential areas.

The project will also create alternative routes apart from the main roads and protect the existing asphalt roads against edge deterioration due to traffic, dust and mud during dry and rain seasons respectively.

The four year project will be implemented in two phases, and will cover all three districts of the City of Kigali; Nyarugenge, Kicukiro and Gasabo. The first phase which has already started will cover 70.268 km, and will be constructed by NPD-COTRACO, the construction company which won the tender. The second phase will cover 35 km and the tender is in process.

While officiating at the launch ceremony, the Minister of Local Government Hon. James Musoni urged the contractor, NPD-COTRACO, to construct durable quality standardized roads with enough comfort for users.

So far, 25 km of priority roads for the start of the first phase were already selected in three districts of the city of Kigali; in which 7.1 km were selected in Nyarugenge District, 8.2 km in Kicukiro District, and 10.2 in Gasabo District. These first 25 km are to be completed by the end on the year 2014.
