NCC welcomes “Accountable Governance for child rights programme”

The five years programme initiated by Save the Children Rwanda, aims at ensuring that the Government of Rwanda is accountable to fulfill children’s rights in Rwanda and strengthening child protection systems to prevent and respond to violence against children

During its launch on February 16, 2017 Pholippe Adapoe, the Country Director of Save the Children said that they initiated the programme to support the existing Rwanda’s efficiency in protecting and promoting child rights. He promised that the Programme will touch every child in Rwanda. He however pledged for a strong partnerships to succeed.

Our ambition is to make sure that no child dies of preventable diseases. We can't do that without partnership” He pointed out.

The strategy to implement the programme include engaging the Government, Civil Society Organizations and children to ensure that commitments made to children are realized and ensure that mobilized public resources are allocated, optimized and spent efficiently and equitably on children

Speaking at the launch of the programme, Dr.Claudine Uwera Kanyamanza, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Children commended the programme for contributing directly to the NCC mandate, especially in strengthening child protection systems and monitoring and coordination child rights implementation.

In line with the Government of Rwanda’s Integrated Child Right Policy and its strategic plan, this programme adds value to the implementation of its seven (7) pillars. We made commendable progress in building Child Protection System: social workforces in place, the Inshuti z’Umuryango are trained and operate in the community. This programme builds on the achievements already made and scales up the coverage while strengthening the structure already in place” She said

She emphasized that NCC, its partners and the Government of Rwanda have been doing well in monitoring child rights protection urging the programme to complement.

“We hope that in next five years, with the support of this programme, we will be able to make additional steps” She concluded while thanking   Save the Children for its continuous support to the Government of Rwanda in general, and to the sectors affecting children in particular.

Accountable Governance for child rights programme is funded by European Union. It has 2, 5 billion Rwandan francs as budget
