Students perform a cultural dance at the event
In order to promote good governance skills among children in schools, the National Commission for Children (NCC) in partnership with different institutions is working to strengthen the capacity of leadership clubs in schools.
Speaking at the launching ceremony in Nyaza District, Mr. Damien Ngabonziza, the Chair of NCC Board of Commissioners who presided over the event said that it is because of the government’s commitment that the National Commission for Children is in place to ensure freedom of children.
Today, we are encouraging strengthening of children leadership clubs in schools in order to develop in them a spirit of leadership and patriotism said Damien. This provides children an opportunity to give their views on different issues affecting their lives and also develops their confidence in knowing what to present and when it is most appropriate.
Mr. Ngabonziza Damien speaking at the event
Clubs in schools help in grooming good governance skills in children when they are still at school. This is why schools are called upon to support these clubs in making them functional and yield tangible results.
This event is part of the various activities, which were organized during the week that was dedicated to the Day of the African Child, International Day of Families and the International Day of Fighting against Child Labor. The day of African child is celebrated in the commemoration of South African Children who lost their lives Soweto in 1976 while protesting for their rights. Mr. Damien articulated that “the Rwandan children will never fight for their rights and freedom because it is already in place”.
Speaking at the event, the President of the District Children’s Forum, MUHIRWA Yves thanked the government of Rwanda for giving them a voice in matters concerning children. This has given children an opportunity to give opinions that contribute to their well-being and development of the country. He also congratulated children for their service in cleaning Nyanza town and for having attended this important event in big numbers.
Representing the District, Ms. Kambayire Apolline, vice mayor in charge of Social Affairs was very impressed for having this national event launched in Nyanza District and thanked the schools for having participated in the event.
