The Global and National Context
The Unity Nations Secretary-General’s Study on Violence against Children(VAC), Commissioned in 2001 and completed in 2006, is without a doubt, the first and most comprehensive global research project on all forms of violence against children. It provides a global baseline to respond to the now emergent epidemic of VAC and reports shockingly high levels of violence against children. It shows that even places presumed to be safe (homes and schools) are violent. The forms of violence, depicted in the report, are also disturbing, ranging from beatings, torture, sexual assault and even murder. READ MORE
