SUMMARY INFORMATION ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT LEGAL ADVISORY SERVICES DIVISION

  1. Summary information

The Government Legal Advisory Services is one of the divisions of the Ministry of Justice through which some of the responsibilities of the Ministry are discharged as provided for by the Prime Minister’s order no 40/03 of 25/04/2014 determining the mission, functions, organizational structure and summary of job positions of the Ministry of Justice / Office of the Attorney General. The division assists the Attorney General in his role as Chief Government Technical Adviser and its duties comprise of the following:

  1. Provide requisite advice to Government and its institutions on legal matters;
  2. Analysis and Provision of the Legal Opinions on contracts and other agreements to be signed by the Government and its institutions;
  3. Draft standard contracts and agreements to be used  by the Government and its institutions
  4. Represent the Attorney General in negotiation and other meetings as need may be;
  5. Coordination of the capacity building programs for Government Legal Advisers
  6. Assist the Attorney General in coordinating the work done by Government Legal Advisers appointed by different institutions
  7. Any other duties as may be assigned by the Attorney General.

 

  1. Achievements during the first half of the Year 2015-2016

From July to December 2015, the following were achieved by the Government Legal Advisory Services Division:

  1. 108 Legal Opinions on different Government Contracts were provided
  2. 34 Legal Opinions on Memorandum of Understandings and other agreements involving the Government were provided;
  3. 36 Legal advices were given on different legal matters involving the Government and its institutions;
  4. 2 Coordination meetings were held with Government Legal Advisers;
  5. 62 Meetings on contract negotiations and on other Government matters were attended;
  6. 1 standard contract was developed
