Kigali-Musanze-Rubavu street lighting project inaugurated

The Kigali-Musanze-Rubavu street lighting project was inaugurated on the 29th January, 2015 by Honorable James Musoni, the Minister of infrastructure. The event was held at Gataraga cell, Busogo sector in Musanze District.

The project was initiated in August 2012 by MINALOC and MININFRA and gave mandate to Rwanda Energy Group LTD to implement the project under the national program to increase the energy efficiency of the street lighting in the Country.

According to Hon. James Musoni, the project will ensure safety and mobility of goods, services and people.

This project will be extended not only on Kigali-Musanze-Rubavu road but also on other highways mainly; Kigali-Kayonza-Kagitumba, Kigali-Huye-Kanyaru, Kigali-Kayonza-Rusumo, and Kigali-Gatuna, totaling to 277 kilometers.

This project is part of a wider effort to have street lights cover all roads Country wide under the government of Rwanda support. The unique feature of this approach is comprehensiveness in the planning process meant to increase quality services to promote trade and investments in the Country.

The cost of this project is 7,997,061,648 Rwandan francs and each district contributed 70.000.000million for the completion of this project.

The second phase of the project will be comprised of Kigali-Kayonza-Kagitumba plus Kayonza-Rusumo (146km), Kigali-Gatuna (45km) and Kigali-Huye-Akanyaru (86km).totaling to 277Km respectively.
