Welcome from The Minister

Dear visitors,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the official website of the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion.  The Ministry is entrusted by the Government of Rwanda with a mandate of ensuring strategic coordination of the implementation of policiesin the areas of family promotion, gender equality, women empowerment, Gender based Violence prevention and response and children’s rights protection are a success.

The Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda of 2003 as amended in 2015 in its Article 10, 4° has enshrined the promotion of  gender equality, family promotion and protection of children’s’ rights among the major priorities for the Government of Rwanda throughout the recovery and reconstruction process after the tragedy of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi. This Constitutional provision affirms that women occupy AT LEAST 30% quota of positions in decision making organs. It further affirms in Article 18, that the family, being the natural foundation of the Rwandan society, is protected by the State. Thanks to the Excellent Leadership of HE Paul KAGAME, the President of the Republic who is also a #He4She Global Champion.

It is pertinent to note that there is a need to strengthen the family ties as a foundation for the country’s holistic transformation; all starts within the family and therefore we should protect it from now and for generations to come.

Currently, the Ministry is centrally focusing on promoting family welfare and peaceful co-existence of its members, protecting the rights of children and ensuring that they are free from exposure to any risk and abuse.

I acknowledge the tireless efforts of various Government agencies, International Organizations, NGOs, Civil Society Organizations, Religious Based Organizations and other partnering institutions of their full commitment in helping MIGEPROF to accomplish its mandate.

We will continue to work together towards a conducive environment, sensitizing the public on strengthening the family cohesion towards human capital and sustainable development that are in line with NST1, building safe families that are free from all issues that hinder Rwandans’ wellbeing such as: malnutrition/stunting, family conflicts, GBV, teenage pregnancies and child exploitation in all its forms among others.

Dear partners, friends and visitors to this portal, you are warmly invited to check on our periodical updates and we appreciate your support, contributions and feedback.

Thank you.

Prof. BAYISENGE Jeannette
